The liver, positioned in the upper right abdomen, produces bile—a greenish-yellow fluid containing waste products, cholesterol, and bile salts. Bile helps break down fats during digestion and remove waste. A HIDA scan or hepatobiliary scan is an imaging procedure to track the flow of bile from your liver to your small intestine and also to evaluate your gallbladder function.
